Most people have heard of Tiffany and the wonders in glass his company produced, but not everyone knows about another important company once based in Queens.
I recently read your article, “How Brooklyn's First Free Library Became the Brooklyn Museum”
While I appreciate your research and writing, the choice to publish when Brooklyn Museum union workers are facing layoffs is deeply respectfully and disappointing.
Just today, the very folks who work to preserve the history, art, and architecture of the museum (many of whom live and work in crown heights) stood on the steps of the museum in solidarity with local elected, union leaders, and community activists demanding a stop the layoffs.
I urge you to please support labor, and working class New Yorkers. Your article could not have been published without the work of dedicated archivists, conservators, educators, art handlers, registrar workers, who are now facing layoff.
Wow, I had never heard anything about this, and it is such amazing work! Thanks Suzanne.
The intersection of Fresh Pond Rd and Metropolitan has definitely never been part of Brooklyn. Neighborhood boundaries are unofficial and subjective, but county lines are not. Speaking of subjective neighborhoods, I'd call that one Fresh Pond rather than Maspeth.
