For most of us, our milk has many steps between the cows in the pasture and the milk on our supermarket shelves. Pour a glass of moo juice and grab a cookie and enjoy the story of NY milk.
Well researched and beautifully written! Reminds me of my hometown and family roots in upstate NY. My maternal grandmother’s family went generations back in dairy farming (Halberts), and my paternal great grandfather and my father worked for the Dairyman’s League depot in Mt Upton (Robinson).
Thanks, Karen. I was thinking about the Halberts when I was writing this. My brother and I used to get fresh milk from their farm up the road in trade for them using our field for their dry cows. They were the nicest people.
Very cool! Funny that we got our milk from the Jensen farm, not sure why. We also adopted one of Buster’s barn kittens. Muffin never really calmed down, but she was cute :)
Yeah, Mark and I used to ride out bikes up there. Mrs. Halbert used to let us pick raspberries from the bushes around their house, and once she gave us some rhubarb, too. I remember looking at it and not having a clue what you did with it. Red celery? Mom used to spoon the cream from the top of the milk for her coffee. Good times!

They were! For some unknown reason, we got our milk from the Jenson farm. Wish my mother was around to ask about this.
